Domestic Violence

How we can help

I offer a supportive and tailored approach to addressing the challenges associated with domestic violence. Here's how the program can assist individuals dealing with domestic violence issues:

Safe and Confidential Environment: The program prioritizes creating a safe and confidential space where individuals can openly discuss their experiences with domestic violence. This environment is crucial for individuals to feel secure in sharing sensitive and often traumatic information.

Trauma-Informed Therapy: I employ trauma-informed therapy techniques, recognizing the emotional, psychological, and physical impact of domestic violence. This approach allows for a sensitive and understanding response to the unique needs of survivors.

Safety Planning: For individuals currently experiencing domestic violence, the program may offer assistance in developing safety plans to help navigate immediate risks and protect individuals from harm.

Emotional Support: Survivors of domestic violence often grapple with a range of complex emotions, including fear, shame, guilt, and anxiety. The program provides emotional support to help individuals process these emotions and begin the healing process.

Empowerment and Regaining Control: Domestic violence can strip individuals of their sense of control and agency. I emphasize empowering survivors, supporting them in regaining control over their lives, and making choices that promote their well-being.

Crisis Intervention: Recognizing the urgent nature of domestic violence situations, the program may provide crisis intervention services to ensure immediate support and guidance during critical moments.

Coping Strategies: Therapists work collaboratively with survivors to develop healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with the aftermath of domestic violence. Learning effective coping strategies is crucial for managing stress, triggers, and rebuilding a sense of stability.

Psychoeducation: I offer psychoeducation about the dynamics of domestic violence, the impact on individuals and families, and the process of healing. Education can empower survivors with knowledge about their experiences and the available resources for support.

Individualized Treatment Plans: Recognizing the unique circumstances of each survivor, the program likely tailors treatment plans to address specific needs, triggers, and goals for recovery.

Legal and Practical Guidance: The program may provide information and guidance on legal and practical aspects related to domestic violence, such as obtaining protective orders or accessing community resources.

Community and Peer Support: Connecting with others who have experienced similar challenges can be a vital aspect of healing. I facilitate group therapy or support networks to create a sense of community and shared understanding.

Long-Term Support: Recovery from domestic violence is often an ongoing process. I offer long-term support to ensure survivors have access to resources and therapeutic assistance as they progress in their healing journey.

Trauma Psychotherapy

Trauma faced during your childhood can have long lasting impacts. Whether you experienced psychological abuse, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse, neglect, sexual assault (historical and present), domestic violence, witnessed a catastrophic event (i.e. a violent accident). The individual often manifests symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or in some circumstances where trauma is long standing and chronic, Complex-PTSD. Survivors of trauma need a safe holding environment whereby they can feel psychologically safe to explore their trauma and release it. As a trauma-informed-therapist my goal is to utilize interventions which address how trauma is “held” in the body using Trauma-Informed-Psychotherapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Inner family systems therapy, and elements of Somatic Experiencing.
